It has been almost two months since my grandmother started her blog at 85andchange.com. Working on this project with her has been so exciting. She never ceases to amaze me with her energy and tenacity. She is a most amazing woman, and it means so much to me to have had this experience. I wish every grandchild could have a bonding experience like this with their grandparents. We have so much to learn from our elders.
Over the last several weeks have traveled to see Joe Bide, Bill Clinton, and Hillary Clinton. Each speaker has been an inspiration and motivational. But today the excitement hits an all time high. Today we get to go downtown and see Barack, Michelle, and Bruce Springsteen! What an appropriate and fitting end of the campaign. We are both so excited, we can't contain ourselves! The only excitement that can compare to it will come on Tuesday evening when it becomes clear that the nation has chosen Barack Obama to be the next president of the United States!
In tonight's debate raised alot of questions in my mind. Obama claimed a 95% tax decrease for the public, or a 5% tax increse for big businesses. He also talked about Making education his #1 priority. How can you expect to stimulate a business into creating jobs in america by taxing them, or anyone who now was willing to open a business? I would move my business overseas if I was the owner, for the simple reason because it is cheaper. 95% of the people who lose thier jobs, will see a tax decrease (because they won't earn anything to pay taxes with). America will be turned into another "sweat shop third world country" with this logic. Funding education is important, but at what cost? Most Americans who have earned degrees can not use them! The job market is that bad in where a degree means nothing. We, in America, will have a nice degree to hang up on our walls but not have a job for that degree. I was originally voting for Obama, but after I saw he has no real concept of the real world, I can not. Obama is living a pipe dream, in which he believes helping us now will help us in the future. Helping us now will indeed do just that (at least for the next 4 years). Then Obama stated that Bush (who I dislike as our president) said forget about Osama Bin Laden. As I recall, Bill Clinton was given Osama Bin Laden on a platter by another government (Before the 9/11 attacks). In which Bill said that America doesn't want him. Even a high ranking offical said that he spent alot of security at his house because of "The worst type of terrorist, that hates America, Osama Bin Laden". Which happened to be Gore (again, before the 9/11 attacks). Obama will take none of the blame for his own party, but will instead blame people who aren't popular to gain a popular vote. I'm sorry BO, but tonight you lost my vote, unless you decide to let Michelle run in your place and change all your policies (or at least think them through).

This is WHY:
I wanted to promote CHANGE but I couldn't find a way that appealed to me. I wanted to solve this problem for myself and for other people, especially other young people.
Here's how it came about:
I used to run a bike shop in New York, but I left that job last Spring and decided to travel around America to clear my head and decide what to do next. By Fall, I'd traveled over 9,000 miles by bicycle, train, bus, and car. It was an amazing experience - it was particularly valuable for this city-boy to get out into the country to see some things firsthand. There was no shortage of people to meet.
But... I kept having a similar conversation with the people that met...
Over the course of 9,000 miles, I met a lot of VERY DIFFERENT people who all wanted the same thing: CHANGE! For one reason or another almost everybody I met wanted to end the war in Iraq AND improve the environment and the economy. A lot of people agreed that Education is a good place to start investing to seed CHANGE. And almost everybody agreed that Health Care and Social Security are completely destroyed.
But... I didn't feel the least bit sad. I actually felt a great deal of relief...
You see, I knew very clearly what was needed. I needed to take ACTION. If you agree that we have real problems in this country, you have to take ACTION. Nobody is going to do it for us. So I took these thoughts and rolled them into ObamaIsTheMan.com. The site offers an EASY way for young people to GET INVOLVED and to CONTRIBUTE to the campaign. We offer free content and hip, green t-shirts. Our mailing list has grown quickly, so we're also updating people about Obama-Biden 08.
I worked with a designer who lives on my block in Brooklyn who does a lot of design work in the music industry and works with a number of internet-based companies because I couldn't find too many shirts that I would actually wear. I made the shirts green because I think it's time to start doing things a little smarter in terms of the environment - plus organic cotton feels like butter. We contribute because we think it's important to reward a candidate whose campaign is financed by THE PEOPLE.

If you have the ability to watch c-span on cable TV - I highly recommend it when watching the convention. It is a live feed so you see and hear the actual event - without the interruptions of news commentators. I wanted to hear the speeches just as they were delivered - and it was fantastic! C-span shows the entire program - mainstream media decides for you what is important and what isn't.

All that came to the microphone offered more insight in to why Obama is a man we can trust. We heard from local IL politicians attesting to Obama's skills at bringing ALL people together in a common cause. We heard from ordinary people that have been inspired by this campaign.

I hope the whole world was watching this last night. It was a testimony to believing we have the power, as a group of individuals with our own personal motivations, to come together to work towards a common higher purpose. I do believe, with Obama in office, our country can be restored to the honorable place it once held. Leading by example, we have the power to help other countries find peace within their own borders applying these same principles.

Al Gore recently endorsed Obama, and one of the numerous points he touched upon was the involvement of young Americans in this country's political process for the first time. Young is subject to definition, however this campaign has brought me into the fold of the political process for the first time.
Why have I not participated in this democracy before?
Not because I'm lazy, not because I don't care, not because I'm uninformed, not because I lack the intelligence to understand the process. The reason I have opted out of our system is because for years I have been of the solid belief that our democracy has failed, that the sad remnants are nothing more that a puppet show for the dumbed down non-questioning masses that have become sheeple; following blindly what they are told to believe.
Have I lost my woeful outlook for this country; my belief that we are one election away from tyranny and dictatorship? NO. I have, however, found a spark, a twinkling light in the gloom of our government. One beacon shinning in the distance. I have symbolized Obama and his campaign to the early lighthouses, warning naval ships of hazardous terrain, while instilling them with the resolving hope that soon the trip through rough seas will be over.
Sadly seeing Ron Paul recede from the presidential race has left me to put all of my faith in Obama's platform. I believe that Obama's election and succession to the presidential office is the last hope this country has to stave off the next and most horrific war...... The second American revolution. If this country fails to unite and recognize the injustice done to it's citizens in sheer blatancy of the founding fathers morality; the country will be irreparably divided. Their are too many factions that will have lost all faith in our system and will be unable to tolerate 4 more years of this rape of lady justice and human liberties.
Put the word out, build the movement! Do not let Bush get the opportunity to create a situation abroad that will allow him the unjust but insane legal right to call continuity of government (COG), directive 51. Whatever you want to call it, we must act now and seat Obama before the youngest and greatest government system crumbles under the seduction of power and corruption.

This has been such an incredible couple of months. It's happening, we can do it.
It's been especially important to me that Sen. Obama has proven that our Hope is justified, that he can, will, and has brought change to America. I've needed that hope. I have a severe chronic pain condition due to some injuries and improper treatment while serving in the Army. Things have gotten a lot worse lately, I haven't been able to do much parenting for my 3 year old son, I only leave the house for doctors appointments (and have had to cancel some of those because I felt so awful), and I have been having some pretty bad problems with my eyes (which is pretty scary when the internet is the way you connect with the world when you're pretty much house bound). Needless to say, I needed some hope. I needed to see that world really is changing, that hope can overcome hate.
This campaign has given me so much hope, so much joy. It has, and will continue to be a great source of happiness and excitement at a pretty tough time. We would appreciate your thoughts, prayers, meditations, etc. at this time of struggle in our family.
Thank you to everyone who has helped get Obama to this point - you are making a difference in more ways than you know!
