Subject: ALASKA IS A DISASTER
I am neither for nor against Sarah Palin, but this is an eye-opener. THANKS!
Alaska is a disaster
by Rob Rosenfeld
After 11 years working in rural Alaska , I feel obligated to share my observations regarding the Third World living conditions facing more than 200 rural Native communities, and the State of=2 0Alaska 's lack of attention to the many inequities they suffer.
While Governor Palin claims "exemplary leadership" and attempts to become Vice President of the United States , the truth is rural Alaska is a disaster in multiple areas: human health, lack of infrastructure, the environment, and the economy are equal to that of Third World countries. Sarah Palin is a single issue governor who fails to effectively address these critical needs. Alaska has the highest rates of homelessness per capita in the US , overflowing sewage lagoons in dozens of communities, and no running water in more than 150 villages – that's 25% of the population without running water.
Governor Palin has demonst rated how out of touch she is with Alaska while she continues to ignore the needs of the homeless, fails to recognize Third World living conditions in her home state, and ignores climate change victims, polluted waters, village health hazards and unattended military contaminate sites. Alaska is a barometer for climate change. Access to some remote communities has been cut off, villages are flooding, landfill contents and overflowing sewage lagoons are contaminating communities, and several villages are being forced to pack up and move. Governor Palin says she doesn't believe climate change is caused by humans. Regardless of the cause, she remains unresponsive to the needs of climate change refugees and victims in Alaska .
More than 200 landfills in rural Alaska lack liners to prevent seepage and dozens of sewage lagoons receive annual discharge permits to discharge untreated and untested sewage into Alaska 's salmon bearing rivers. 0A Alaska has the highest amount of military contaminant sites in the US with more than 500 sites that require extensive resources to assess, monitor and remediate. Alaska also has the highest rates of cancer per capita in the United States . Governor Palin is silent on this issue and is solely focused on the natural gas pipeline and oil drilling in protected and fragile places. While Palin asserts that resource extraction can be done responsibly, North Slope oil extraction has resulted in hundreds of spills and leaks monthly. On her watch, polluters have not been brought to justice and environmental regulations have been relaxed by her controversial appointee to head the Department of Environmental Conservation. Larry Hartig, Palin's pick for C ommissioner, was the lead lawyer defending Red Dog Mine (owned by Teck Cominco) which is rated as the worst mine in the country for discharging contaminants into the environment.
Red Dog Mine is number one on the national Toxic Release Inventory. The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation has continued to undermine the integrity of the Clean Water Act by ignoring the anti-degradation act, mixing zone laws and making discharge exemptions for oil companies allowing daily oil sludge discharge into the Cook Inlet resulting in millions of tons of contaminants in Alaska 's pristine waters. Palin sued the federal government for trying to protect the polar bear population and, contrary to her rhetoric, she did accept federal dollars for the Bridge to Nowhere. Alaska has the highest gas prices in the country, exceeding more then $9 per gallon in some villages.
Alaska also the highest unemployment in rates in the country as more than 150 villages face 50 to 80 percent rates of unemployment. Palin does not pay attention to any of the above realities as she fixates on the oil industry and has even created a Renewable Energy Fund that allows for natural gas extraction and coal bed methane; both of which are far from renewable resources and cause considerable environmental degradation. Beyond the pretty face of Governor Palin rests an unaware, out of touch, rape and pillage resource extractor who is doing the bidding for the leading oil companies in the world while trying to opennew areas for oil development. Rob Rosenfeld has a Masters Degree in International and Sustainable Development and has lived in Homer, Alaska since 1995, working primarily with rural communities. He is a long time advocate for human rights and fair distribution of government resources and opportunities. robrosey@xyz.com _______________________________________________________________________________

This is a beginning, Nursing needs to admit to the part it has played past and PRESENT.

Public Perceptions of Nursing Careers: The Influence of the Media andNursing Shortages

Introduction
The public's long-standing esteem for registered nurses (RNs) is well documented in public opinion polls. Nurses and physiciansboth rate highly with the public in trended national survey questions about trusted professions, prestigious occupations, and"honesty and ethical standards" of the professions (Gallup Organization, 2007; Harris Interactive 2006, 2007). The high publicregard for nurses, however, has not necessarily translated into an adequate supply of individuals who are willing to be nurses. The expected future demand for nurse labor challenges us to look more closely at the public's perceptions of nursing andnursing careers, and consider how they are shaped by personal experience, media messages, and socio-demographic factors. The best available evidence suggests that, barring a major reorganization of health care delivery in the next generation, oursociety will need more nurses. Although the current nursing shortage that began in 1998 has begun to ease in recent years, projections of the future supply of RNs consistently point to a substantial slow-down in the growth in the number of RNs in theworkforce over the next decade. Given current federal government projections of steady and strong growth in the future demandfor RNs as the Baby Boom generation ages, shortages of RNs are projected. The most recent projections suggest that ashortage of RNs will develop midway into the next decade and that the deficit will grow to as many as 285,000 RNs by 2020(Buerhaus, Staiger, & Auerbach, 2008). A shortage of this size would be nearly three times larger than any shortageexperienced in the United States during the past 50 years. If this future shortage materializes, it could cripple access, quality, and safety to millions of Americans. Unfortunately, assuming that there is no let up in the demand for RNs, by 2025 the nursingshortage is projected to reach 500,000 RNs. The impact of a shortage of this size is difficult to comprehend.Promoting a stronger convergence between the public's esteem for and interest in the nursing profession is also important inlight of the changing demographic make-up of both the population and the nursing workforce. As the composition of our societyhas changed, growing older as 78 million American Baby Boomers age, the demographic composition of the nursing workforcehas also changed. A considerable influx of second career workers has changed the face of the nursing student, but not the faceof the active workforce. In particular, the nursing workforce has become older, with the average age of employed RNs at 43.7years in 2007 (Buerhaus et al., 2008). Projections suggest that by 2012, the largest age group of the RN workforce will be overthe age of 50 years. The workforce has become more racially and ethnically diverse, in part through substantial growth in theproportion of foreign-born RNs. Still, the profession is disproportionately comprised of non-Hispanic whites (79%) and females(91% of the current workforce).
I want to thank Michael Daniels the Organization Fellow and Greg Gershuny the Community Organizer for their support and guidance and keeping the group on track and focused on the Obama Plan. As you know there are so many issues related to delivery of Healthcare in America.
Priscilla Herochek, Marsha Bennett, and Evalyn Gossett have agreed to begin canvassing our nursing publications and local nursing organizations for upcoming scheduled meetings and identify any groups who would have us come out and discuss the Obama Health plan, and answer their questions regarding implementaion of this plan.
More to come.
Fired up and ready to go.
Sorry Senator, I'm just not too inspired today, there are just so many horrible and sad things happening in my life as well as the world, that I am not overly inspired. I hope you are having a better day than I am.
I am going to just offer a short prayer today.
Please Lord keep Sen. Obama in your care through out the day, place joy, peace, favor, hope and inspiration before as he goes along on his journey to the White House. Bless he and his family and all those who are involved in his campaign, especially those who protect him.
O God who sits high and looks low, please help our fellow countrymen who have been hit by life's challenges because of the weather. Only you know each of them need to cope with what they are facing, I ask you to be the provider I know you are. Please God hear and answer my pray in Jesus name, amen.

I want to thank David Ploufe, and everyone who is working as Senator Barrack Obama's advisors, strategist, the web master for myspace.com, facebook and and youtube (where he beats the rock stars in videos watched) mybarrackobama.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. You are doing a most excellent job.
Obama has started his national tour and I love the fact that he is remaining so very focused on the facts and issues which must move this country forward.
He speaks of his vision, he is leading already.
I am a 51 year old African American Female, Veteran, and Nurse. I never thought I would be so proud to be an American as I am today. History. Senator Barrack Obama will be the first African American Democratic Presidental Nominee. I did not know I would live to see this. Of course there is so much history before this. I remember when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. received the Nobel Peace Prize. Although, I was quite young then I knew it was so important.
When Nelson Mandela was released, even the Berlin Wall. But this is so phenomenal. Now. On to the White House. Go Obama Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!VOTE - IT IS THE LEAST YOU CAN DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama for Change we can believe in. (We need more positve change).
Brings Tears of joy for me.
I hope the DNC will follow their own rules and not change the rules in the middle of the (end of the game). It is awful that MI and FL have gone thru so much to get early primary election dates and then later be penalized if the DNC will not seat those delegates. But It is very unfair and seems to me to be cheating if the DNC allows HRC 70 delegates from MI based on votes for her. She did not follow the rules and allowed her name to remain on the ballot when the other Dems removed theirs.
I think the delegates should be equally divided. Which would not give an advantage to either candidate at this point.
HRC clearly wants an advantage which BHO would not have.
On to the election in Puerto Rico and South Dakota and Montana
We don't really want the media of any sort to ENDORSE OBAMA. We want the media to report the news and that is all
I found this on Digg
To the Rudolph Murdoch's of the world...STOP BIG MEDIA!The Senate voted in overwhelming numbers to reject an FCC ruling that would unleash a new wave of media consolidation across America. More than a quarter-million people took action and sent a powerful message to Washington: Big Media is big enough. The fight now moves to the House, where a bipartisan version of the Senate "resolution of disapproval" (H.J.Res.79) needs your support. Tell your representative to vote for H.J. Res. 79 and Stop Big Media...!!https://secure.freepress.net/site/Advocacy?cmd=dis ...sign the petition!
Do I need to tell you that Senator Barrack Obama has reached far beyond rock star status.
There are well over 130,000 videoes of him on YOU Tube , and the number of views per video is unbelievable.
Go Obama Go. Will i am video gets a tremendous amount of views (over 1 million) also.
Thank you Will i am.
Well security for Senator Barrack Obama was always a real concern. But a prayerful, and unspoken concern.
A concern because: he is the first Black Presidential candidate AND he represents so much hope and change. Which is what was taken away from us in the 60's with Martin, Robert and John.
Now -- because of HRC and her insensivitive, self centered and desperate attempts to win the Dem Nomination -- security is a big write up. So many blogs are writing about this issue. Well so am I. Oh yeah -- these are some great shots.
Great shots of Obama campaigning and really great shots of these Secret Service agents for the Renegade. They are vigilante. Thank you.

So now HRC is a vulture. She is hanging around and holding on in the campaign until June because ??????
Unspeakable, certainly not a real campaign manuever. To many boomers around that know what happened back then. Today she has really opened an awful bag of worms.
HRC - go away and stay away. The American public is really sick of this now. We really want a leader who has vision, who can inspire hope, who will inspire the masses to work for change, productivity and LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT Of HAPPINESS.
John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy are rolling over in their graves that you would attempt to pawn this off as a noble campaign. You are sickening. SHUT UP, GO AWAY.
Do something
we do not want HRC to be VP. When she could have been a team player she became an attack dog. No pit bulls in office. It reminds me of the Newt Gingrich era. He has been lurking around lately too.
How awful.

It seems that Senator Barrack Obama will win Oregon and HRC may win Kentucky. But Obama only needs less than 20 delegates.
The news reports are that she has an insurmountable climb at this point to win the nomination. The question is being asked "Did being a woman hurt HRC?" NO - HRC hurt HRC. The American voter, the world wants positve change. NO MORE LIES, POLITICS, PACS, SPECIAL INTEREST, ETC.
For the people, by the people.
